NEW YEAR, NEW PODCAST!

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Well friends, we are back from our break and working with no end in sight, trying to provide you with as much entertainment as we can. To start it off, here is podcast 80! 2008 was awesome, but if this podcast is any indication of how 2009 is going to go, you might as well pretend last year never happened. In this podcast, we discuss and analyze the cinematic journey of the movie-film “Minghags.” We also give the best and worst of 2008.
Okay, it’s time to watch this son of a gun. Go gather the kids and get a big bowl of popcorn ready and let’s have some family time, Mega64 style. Click here for the audio version!

Okay, I know I say this almost every week, but seriously, come back soon. We have some major announcements. Things so secretive that I can’t even give you a hint…Fine one hint, “yes we did!” (That’s an Obama joke!)

VICTORY IS OURS!!

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Mega64 has won ScrewAttack’s “2008 Gaming’s 1337 Awards” not just once, but TWICE! We got the award for BEST GAMING SHOW and BEST PODCAST! The Gaming’s 1337 awards are essentially the Oscars of the video game industry, and we found out Martin Scorsese has only won one Oscar, so I think it’s safe to say we pretty much SMOKED Scorsese on this one!!marty sux

Watch the awards video here!

No, but in all seriousness, we have to thank you guys big time for this. We got this because all of you voted (apparently pretty often) for us, and even though we’ve been doing this for a while now, it still feels unreal that anybody would care enough about us to do that. We’ve never really had any awards before, so this is pretty exciting to us. I know a lot of people are probably thinking “Wow, Rocco, you’re making a big deal out of this,” but the thing is that we’ve done this show for ourselves and friends for so many years, that we still forget you guys are out there, rooting for us. It’s really special to us, and I don’t feel like we can ever repay you for that.

That being said, we can try. It’s a new year. The stuff we have coming up is going to be a lot of fun, and we hope you enjoy it. A couple new features are coming to the site that I think you will get a kick out of.

We’d also like to end this story on a sad note, and wish the best to all our friends at Electronic Gaming Monthly, the world’s most famous game magazine, which just received the axe today. Not only was it a mag I’ve read since 1st grade, it was a huge publication that really helped legitimize Mega64. Including our early skits on the DVDs inside their magazine for half a year made us actually look like something important, and got our name out there in an era long before Youtube. But above all that, there were some great people working in their halls, and they deserve a safe passage into whatever road they travel next. All the best to the EGM/1up Crew tonight- you guys were, and are, the best.

“FEEL THE MAGIC” ERUPTS FROM THE MEGA64 VAULT!!

Monday, January 12th, 2009

So one of our many lofty goals we set out for the new year was to archive many of our old, never (officially) online-released videos. We’re more interested in new stuff, granted, but when content on the site ran a little thin this month, we decided to take one good quick dip in the Mega64 Vault before the new stuff flowed in. Enter “Feel The Magic,” a skit we did years ago that somehow, despite being shown in a thousand different places, never made it onto the internet!

This skit was based on one of the best DS games. It was an obscure launch title that was super-stylized (hence the iPod-commercial-like characters) and all about making use of every facet of the DS hardware… to hit on girls. Okay, so it might not have been a worldwide billion-seller, but we always thought this skit turned out really good. So enjoy!

We’ll be getting back on track soon to bringing you more constant updates. Yesterday, we actually streamed an impromptu live podcast, thanks to the folks at Ustream.tv. The podcast recording will be up as usual on Tuesday, but some people who happened to stumble upon our last-minute message board posting got to join in and send questions/comments live! It was actually really fun, and we hope to get it on a regular schedule soon. Keep an eye on our message boards for more live impromptu hijinks!

See you tomorrow for the new podcast!

PODCAST 81 BRING CES TO YOU (MINUS ANY RELEVANT TECHNOLOGY)

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

The Mega64 Podcast Episode 81 is now online! We talk about the more important announcements made at last week’s CES, as well as talk about comics, gaming guilty pleasures, and of course, Sabritones. We even attempted a rough live feed, like I mentioned earlier. Will the show collapse as a result? Download and see! Watch the video version below or subscribe to the left. Audio version here.

See you very soon with some more fun stuff!

YOUR THURSDAY MEDIA BLITZ!!

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

So apparently there was a segment about us that aired on the show “Electric Playground” on Tuesday. You can watch it, streamed from their website, below!

Edit: Nevermind, embedding it was destroying our site. Just watch it here.

Notice my genuine disdain when Donna Mei-Ling Park insists that our cinnamon-scented DVDs smell like coffee. This was no camera trick, nor was DMLP being very pretty. Also, “DMLP” sounds like some kind of really expensive TV.

I was actually overjoyed by the clip; Not only because they finally used an interview that was shot in Canada six months ago, but rather because of Victor Lucas’ overly kind praise. In spite of things some of us might have done in the past.

We’ll have a lot of other little things like that to show you in the near future, so we’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, I want you to devote the rest of your week to viewing, listening, and spending your life completely wrapped up in this video:

I really hope what I’ve been reading lately about Samuel L Jackson potentially not playing Nick Fury in any subsequent Marvel films isn’t true. I would hate to think that all those poor boys at the Iron Man screening penetrated their brethren for no good reason.

Also, some people released the music from Batman The Animated Series and oh my god I just bought it bye guys

MOURN THE LOSS, METAPHORICALLY

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

The video we just recently produced for IGN called “Metaphors” was apparently topical enough that IGN actually uploaded it to their own Youtube channel. We thought we’d show that to you here, you can click here to watch it.

The video’s a take on the most recent tragedy in journalism- If you’re not in tune with all the game-industry-goings-on, it’s probably going to be lost on you. But hey, maybe you’ll still be touched by the highly sophisticated level of dog acting it contains. I’d wager definitely.

We’ll talk about the video, among other stuff, on Tuesday’s podcast. See you then!
